I haven't addressed this topic in a while because the focus of the page had changed.
BUT I feel the need to at the moment. When I think back to the time between creating the Cancel the 2012 NYC Marathon FB page and the actual cancellation of the event (a mere 39 hours), I am still so overwhelmed by the outpouring of support that this topic received. The power. We forget that we are not helpless. I am honored to have been a part of a massive reminder that we are powerful beyond measure.
I have talked to so so many people in the last two weeks and the LARGE majority of people continue to agree that the cancellation was the right decision to make, oh sure I still get the occasional aggressive email telling me that I am a dumb B****, but like I've said before everyone is entitled to their opinion! I will continue to address such negativity in the same way I have since the beginning ... with integrity. And I will continue to encourage all of you to do the same.
This tweet was brought to my attention today. It is what caused my reflection and post. It simply fortifies my previous beliefs ...
All was not quiet at the time of her tweet... all was certainly not quiet.

Well said! We can't be quiet.. not now. There is so much information to get out, more aid that needs to come in, and so much to be said.
ReplyDeleteWhether it's telling a joke to lift someone's spirits, or being there for someone who is crying - we are not quiet.
When we advocate for what is right and what must be done, we are not quiet.
So long as people are without homes, safety, warmth, and peace of mind... we can't be quiet.
I truly admire you and all the hard work you've done. I'm just a volunteer who has been trying my best to help. And just as one lil' ole person I have been able to make a difference. We ARE powerful, one person CAN do so much... and when the many ones are added together, we become a collective roar that will not be quieted now or ever.
YES! Thank you! It is amazing what people are capable of once they are taught that they are truly ABLE. Thank you for all of your hard work...
DeletePosted to get runners to NYC, making the race "too big to fail". Sleazy.
ReplyDeleteWhen we speak up, with integrity, the issue isn't distinguishing what is right or wrong, but knowing how to act on your values despite opposing pressure. That power is in all of us.
