From a friend of mine who is an FDNY firefighter:
Michele...I
got a little story that i think fits this page.....I was coming back
from a rubbish fire a few nights ago on New Dorp Lane and we turned onto
Cedar Grove Ave. (A VERY HARD HIT BLOCK) As i look out of the rig we
pass by this house. In the front yard are a group of people huddling
around a small barrel fire on the lawn. Still no power...the block and
area in complete darkness. All of a sudden these 3 boys about 8 yrs old
come running toward the rig. Covered head to toe in dirt and standing
next to the destruction of what was their house contents.....And what do
they do??....They stopped...smiled and waved as we drove bye!! Waving
back my heart began to sink in my chest. With everything falling apart
around them...these 3 boys showed me that through the toughest
times...there is ALWAYS something to be GRATEFUL for!! GOD BLESS to all
and if you can help your neighbor in whatever way you can!!!
